At Driftwood Gallery: Nine Eleven Realism: Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of a Group Tragedy
"I can’t remember what I was doing last Tuesday, much less any other Wednesday or Friday from ten years ago. But I can remember, as can everyone around the globe, every moment of Tuesday morning September 11th, 2001. The world as we knew it changed in an instant and nothing or no one has been the same since.
If someone had told me ten years ago that I’d be planning an art exhibit about this in a city 3,000 miles away, I would have laughed in their face. That Tuesday morning was the most horrific day that my family and I have ever experienced as they all made their way into Manhattan for another seemingly typical day of work. Fortunately no one in my family was hurt and I am glad we are still here ten years later.
While this anniversary is by no means a reason to celebrate we have chosen to commemorate this historic American tragedy by presenting to you a very unique exhibit that will feature all works born from this life changing event." Camille Ochoa, Driftwood Gallery

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of September 11th, Ben Wood will inagurate a new video as part of an interfaith program at St. Ignatius Church on Sunday, September 11, 2011.
Ben Wood is one of the best of a new generation of artists with a distinctive approach to connecting art to the people. On September 11, 2001, he had just started grad school and the day's events left an indelible mark, inspiring Wood to use his art to try and make the world a better place.
Wood is known for projecting video on Coit Tower on recent Fourths of July, and on the anniversary of the American Indian occupation of Alcatraz. Earlier this year he received recognition for a striking 18th century mural he recreated in the Mission with Eric Blind; the original was painted by neophytes at Mission San Francisco de Asis in 1791.
Now Wood returns to 9/11, contributing his art to the September 11th Anniversary Commemoration. Manresa Gallery commissioned a piece by Wood paying tribute to those lost in the attacks that plays on the outside of the church throughout the evening, while inside all are welcome to join a service headed by leaders from local Muslim, Jewish, and Christian communities. Wood has also crafted a meditative light installation that invites quiet reflection. A low-key reception follows for anyone who would like to share their thoughts and experiences. Wood’s art serves as inspiration to seek connection and understanding in tragedy.

Sunday, September 11, 2011 Beginning at sundown A new commissioned video piece by artist Ben Wood will be projected onto the façade of St. Ignatius Church before and after the service. During the service a special program of LED lighting will be on view inside the Church.

Cartoon Art Museum: Cartoonists remember September 11th
The major comic syndicates have rallied their cartoonists to dedicate their strips on that day to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks. Joining King Features will be Creators Syndicate, Tribune Media Services, Universal Press Syndicate and Washington Post Writers Group, representing many of the most popular cartoonists in the world’s most influential newspapers and websites.
All 93 participating strips, which tend to appear on Sunday newspaper editions in color in their own special pullout section, will have an overarching September 11 remembrance theme that day.
All of the strips will be spotlighted in a dedicated online gallery available for public viewing at www.CartoonistsRemember911.com starting Sunday, September 11.
