A senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) stressed that Iran will response to any possible enemy aggression, but meantime underlined that Iran will not initiate any war. His warnings were aimed at the United States which is considering a possible pre-emptive military strike, under the pretext that Iran “could” possibly develop a nuclear weapon. Iran says it isn’t doing that and no real evidence has came forward suggesting Iran is developing a nuke.
Commander of the IRGC Ground Force Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour made the remarks at the start of the main phase on the IRGC drills in Iran's Southern province of Fars.
The drills, codenamed “Hamiyan-e Vellayat”(Supporters of Religious Leadership) are underway in Jahrom general zone and involve thousands of people.
Pakpour said that “Iran will not be the initiator of any war”, and added, "But our reaction will be fast." This comes amid speculation that Israel may attack Iran in the spring. The consequences could be catastrophic since in the fog of war Iran may not be able to distinguish where the attack comes from. It would naturally be assumed the attack would come from the United States, which has been war mongering and threatening both Syria and Iran with pre-emptive military action, that could include massive bombing of civilian targets as was the case in Libya, when the US attacked water line and critical infrastructure in heavily populated civilian areas.
"In that event Iran would have to protect itself by striking US military bases in Turkey, Afghanistan and across the middle east. It would also seek to defend the Strait of Hormuz, which lays in Iran’s territorial waters", says Fred Detter of Charlotte, N.C.
Commander Mohammad Pakpour stressed the IRGC ground forces' capability to act as a deterrent force.
Iranian officials and commanders have warned that any enemy move, even the slightest aggressions, against the Islamic Republic would be “reciprocated with a destructive response” and will endanger the interests of the aggressor all around the world… What exactly that means is unclear. Iran operates a clandestine spy network in Europe and the United States. Iran is suspected of having sleeper agents in the U.S., which would be activated in the event of war to conduct attacks and bring the fight to America. Confidential sources know that Iran cannot withstand the military power of the U.S., and would have to conduct asymmetrical warfare that stresses bringing the fight to the enemy, meaning attacks inside the US.
On November 10, Ayatollah Khamenei warned enemies about Iran's tough response to any aggression or even threat, stressing that the country would respond with full force to any attack.
"Iran is not a nation to sit still and just observe threats from fragile materialist powers which are being eaten by worms from inside," Ayatollah Khamenei told students at a Tehran military college.
"Anyone who harbors any thought of invading the Islamic Republic of Iran - or even if the thought crosses their mind - should be prepared to receive strong blows and the steel fists of the military, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and the Basij (volunteer) force, backed by the entire Iranian nation," he said.
"Iran will respond with full force to any aggression or even threats in a way that will demolish the aggressors from within," he added.
Iran and Syria have also formed an alliance. It is suspected that if the US attacks or bombs one nation the other will consider it an attack on its own.
Despite economic sanction, Iran continues to sell oil to China and Russia. The US is also stretched thin around the world with commitments in Afghanistan. Should war erupt with Iran, other nations would surely get involved. The wild card is Russia which has opposed US military interventionism around the war, warning that it does not serve the interest of diplomacy and peace in the world to adopt a pre-emptive military strategy which has cost the lives of tens of thousands of US troops and cost the nation trillions in borrowed money…
The spiraling national debt is considered the most serious national security threat facing this country. “We are broke”, says Ron Paul, Presidential candidate.
