The release date of Commander 2013 is swiftly approaching, and Mark Rosewater's column on the mothership tomorrow will apparently begin its preview weeks. But before the official spoilers start on magicthegathering.com, foreign-language websites often get to show off their own officially sanctioned previews. Such is the case this time, because the German Magic website magicblogs.de has a truly disorderly enchant player that seems to be for the Mind Seize blue-black-red deck. Take a first look at Curse of Chaos.
In English, its text looks like:
Curse of Chaos 2R
Enchantment - Aura Curse (Uncommon)
Whenever enchanted player is attacked by one or more creatures, the attacking player may discard a card. If that player does so, he or she draws a card.
"Let them beg for mercy. Apart from me, no one can hear." - Siglind the Conqueror
This is presumed to be for Mind Seize mostly because Curses are originally from Innistrad block, and that deck's "face" legend is Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge, who is of course also from Innistrad. Curses are particularly devious in multiplayer formats because they allow you to punish only one person at the table; this one in particular allows you to paint a giant bullseye on the chest of any of your opponents and send everyone attacking that player in order to get that valuable hand-optimizing trigger. You can, of course, build around this in order to give yourself the biggest advantage; cards with madness go well with this. Presumably, this also means we'll be seeing a theme of other Curses, both new and reprinted, in that deck!
What do you think of this enemy-making red Curse? Let me know in the comments.
