Throughout Innistrad block, Curses were a minor theme - these were detrimental Auras with enchant player that went hand-in-hand with the top-down themes of that block. Every color, even white, got at least one - except for green, which was left out of the loop by development. Now, in Commander 2013, green is finally getting in on the action, according to the Australia/New Zealand Magic Organized Play Facebook page. Meet Curse of Predation:
Curse of Predation 2G
Enchantment - Aura Curse (Uncommon)
Whenever a creature attacks enchanted player, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
"Hunters feed on the fear of their prey." - Garruk Wildspeaker
Much like Curse of Chaos, also in this set, this serves to make a single player very enticing to attack. And I dare say it does an even better job of it than the red Curse - every creature getting a +1/+1 counter every time it swings at the enchanted player is a huge effect, one that swiftly turns armies of weenies into hordes of fatties. I'd say it's good enough for Legacy aggro decks, and definitely will find a home at kitchen-table duels, but naturally it does much cooler things in multiplayer. And you can use it to get a bigger advantage than your non-enchanted opponents do out of it, with things like Gilder Bairn and persist creatures and Kalonian Hydra - and I suspect the black-red-green Nature of the Beast deck, where this seems to be appearing, will have such measures.
What do you think of this green Curse? Let me know in the comments.
