Reddit seems to be flush with official spoilers for the latest Magic sets these days. Commander 2013 is no exception - the official Magic subreddit just posted another blue-black-red legend for the Mind Seize deck, which hands out both card advantage and pain in spades. Meet Nekusar, the Mindrazer:
Nekusar, the Mindrazer 2UBR
Legendary Creature - Zombie Wizard (Mythic)
At the beginning of each player's draw step, that player draws an additional card.
Whenever an opponent draws a card, Nekusar, the Mindrazer deals 1 damage to that player.
His enemies wondered if the lich king's brutal death and unnatural rebirth had been his plan all along.
Nekusar is literally the embodiment of a favorite old-school control combo: He's a Magus of both the Mine and the Dreams. Merely seeing that combination of abilities makes one nostalgic for decks that revolved around forcing your opponents to fill their hands and playing Black Vise, and the later iterations of Owling Mine decks with Ebony Owl Netsuke. Despite the group-hug nature of his extra-card-draws ability, Nekusar is a hell of a clock, dealing at least 2 damage to every opponent during their draw steps, and he's positively insane with, of course, Howling Mine and every other aforementioned card to increase his damage output, but also with Font of Mythos and Cerebral Vortex. His inclusion in the Mind Seize deck seems to suggest a brutal, enemy-making, and villainously fun massively-damaging combo tack to that build, which I approve of.
What do you think of this nasty lich? Let me know in the comments.
