Coming up in Utah’s horse world – trail challenge events in Grantsville

Looking for a fun and challenging competitive event that will let you and your horses revel in the great outdoors? Do you long to participate in a discipline that doesn’t require a dressy coat and snug, clingy breeches? Want to show off your horse without the aid of braids, clippers and copious coatings of hoof polish?

The Trail Challenge competitions out at Pegasus Event Center (Grantsville, UT) may be just the thing if all these qualities appeal to your down-to-earth equine sensibilities!

Salt Lake area horse owners can make a quick and scenic trek out west to the spacious Pegasus Event Center. Contact managers Jaime or Evan Topham at: pegasuseventcenter@live.com. The facility is located on Race Street in Grantsville, a short 38 miles from SLC. You can travel out on either 201 or I-80.

The Trail Challenge series begins on the weekend of March 22 -23. Register before March 15 to avoid a late fee.

Courses will be offered for beginners on up through seasoned experts. Plenty of wide open space, interesting trails and fun obstacles will provide ample entertainment for both horse and rider!

If your horse has been cooped up through the winter and you’re looking for some professional assistance to get the edge off your frisky critter, why not get in touch with one of the areas local trainers for reliable advice and horse-handling help (either on the ground or under saddle)?

Tooele County has some very good trainers, including Bob Toomer (see Bob Toomer Horse Training on Facebook). Bob’s unique, holistic approach incorporates Biblical principles for the Christian horseman. He works to assess the needs of horse and rider, and can tailor his training program accordingly.

Flying T Acres, owned by Cliff and Janet Tipton, is known for producing reliable endurance and trail horses as well. True artisans when it comes to building a brave and confident equine partner, the Tiptons have turned out some amazing Mustangs and offer riding lessons along with horse training. Shamus Haws of Running U Livestock is also conveniently located in the Erda area. No doubt you’ll recognize Shamus from his success at the local horse trainer’s challenge. He's also garnered some very positive reviews for his annual women's confidence building clinic as well! Grantsville’s Iso Vernon also teaches out of the Pegasus Event Center and will travel off-site.

Salt Lake riders are familiar with the respected skills of Joe Ruiz. Talented trainer, NRHA judge, IRHA Hall of Fame cowboy, riding coach and bit craftsman, Joe is the best of the best and has long been the top choice for Salt Lake area horsemen (and women) in assorted disciplines, from trail to reining, barrel racing, roping, cutting and more. Even dressage riders who want to improve their rhythm and relaxation turn to Joe to hone their riding foundation.

Hook up with one of our area’s respected professional horsemen to polish your skills, then head out on the trail. Challenge yourself and your horse with some competitive fun next month! Check in with the Pegasus staff for more details, entry costs and information. Enjoy that ride!
