Coming up in Utah’s horse world – fun shows at one of SLC's most fun stables

Vista Farms is famous throughout the Salt Lake valley for its fun, family-friendly atmosphere. This year they’re adding to the excitement with another series of fun shows!

The first schooling show will take place on April 6, with additional events to follow monthly; May 4, June 1, July 27, August 17, September 7, and the final Halloween show on October 26 [2013].

The October show features a costume contest prior to the classes. All riders (and horses) are invited to dress up in festive costumes (check out our Examiner.com equestrian article for some cute and simple costume suggestions).

Interested in participating? Just go to the Vista Farms website to see a complete class list for each competitive date. Each fun show starts at 9:00 a.m. Classes begin with English (Hunt Seat), halter and showmanship divisions in the morning. After a lunch break, the Western classes will take place. You can log onto the Vista Farms website for a list of classes and the show schedule.

These playful and well-organized Vista Farm events are open to all ages and all horse breeds. Riders (youth or adult) are welcome to show in casual, clean attire. Show tack or fancy outfits are not required.

The only attire-related rule is that ALL riders under 18 years of age MUST wear a helmet. Of course, adults are strongly encouraged to do so as well.

Entry fees are only $5 per class (plus a $5 ground fee per horse for those who don’t board at Vista).

Winners are placed 1st through 5th in each class; first place is awarded a “Vista buck” which can be turned in right away for an award, or kept and accumulated for bigger rewards at the on-site “Vista store.” Prizes range in value from a dollar on up to $5 vista bucks and include grooming tools, polo wraps, jewelry and other horsey-related items.

As if that’s not enough to lure you out to this terrific West Jordan show pen, Vista Farms gives high point buckles as a year-end award for each age group!

If you’re not a rider but are interested in supporting our local Salt Lake equestrian community, you’re encouraged to come out and watch. There is no fee for spectators. These kid-friendly shows are a delight to watch, and Mandy Allred puts on some outstanding events.

Mark the calendar and head to Vista for their fun show series in 2013. If any of your questions are not answered after visiting the barn’s website, feel free to contact Mandy at 801-573-8965. Hope to see you at the shows!
