'Coming Up' screening at 2013 Tiburon International Film Festival (Photos)

Director Shaun Au's short film "Coming Up" has been selected to screen at this year's Tiburon International Film Festival taking place April 11-19, 2013.

"Coming Up" tells the story of two troubled teens and the caseworker who fights to keep them off the streets.

The film stars Greg Manalo, Romar Lamano, JD Charisma, Kari Wishingrad, Linda Livingston, Shuyi Jia, Hedy Wong and Ed Moy. It was directed by Au from a screenplay by Christine Lee with cinematography by Ben Lunden and editing by Jesse Kerman.

Au's previous films have screened at the Mill Valley Film Festival, Burbank International Film Festival, Rochester International Film Festival, Washington D.C. Independent Film Festival, Kent International Film Festival and New Hope International Film Festival.

Here's the "Coming Up" synopsis:

Wei is a 17 year old brashy boy who spends most of his time on the basketball court. He is raised by his gang associated uncle Ed. Wei is a good friend of Jimmy who also likes to play ball. They are both good friends with a private school student Maggie. Casey is a counselor who has developed a trusting mentorship with the boys.

One day Wei and Jimmy get into a fight over Maggie. They're both hospitalized and hold grudge against each other. More violence is brewing. What's worse is that Wei's uncle Ed has gotten himself in some big trouble.

Love and loss test the limits of the boys' friendship, and pose a challenge to their talented counselor, Casey. He puts everything on the line to help them see the future they're creating--but will it be enough?
