I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day. For those of you who still need to get a Valentine for your furry friends, here are some events for this weekend and the coming week.

Saturday, February 20

Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter's Cool Cat Casino Night, 7:00 pm – 12:00 midnight, Fr. Patrick O'Kelley Knights of Columbus, 23663 Park, Dearborn, MI. Texas Hold 'Em, Black Jack, Let it Ride and others will be played during Western-themed event to benefit the animals of the Dearborn Animal Shelter. Price: $30 in advance, $35 at the door. Humane Society of Livingston County Fur Ball, 6:00 pm, Crystal Gardens, 5768 E. Grand River Howell, MI. The evening includes dinner, open premium bar, raffles, live and silent auctions, plus dancing with musical entertainment provided by the band Serious Jack. Price: $80 per person, $150 per couple. Sunday, February 21

Canine to Five ALL DOG PLAYDATE, 12:00 pm -- 3:00 pm, Detroit, MI. Let your dog burn off that weekend in our indoor/outdoor dog park! This event is for dogs of all sizes, that are friendly and vaccinated! The cost for this event is $5 per dog.

Tuesday February 23

Fundraising Event for P.A.W.S. (Precious Animal Welfare Society) of Michigan, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Wendy's, 22052 Allen Rd., Woodhaven, MI. Wendy's of Woodhaven will donate 15% of all sales (including drive-thru) to P.A.W.S. All proceeds will go to P.A.W.S. SNAP (Spay/Neuter Assistance Program) to subsidize sterilization surgeries for those who can't afford them, and to raise money to help P.A.W.S. open its high quality, high volume spay/neuter clinic in 2010. P.A.W.S. merchandise will also be available for purchase.

Puppy Mill Awareness Meetup (Southeast Michigan) Humane Lobby Day, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm (registration begins at 8:30 am), Michigan State Capitol Building, Room #426, W. Michigan Ave. & S. Capitol Ave., Lansing, MI. Come to a free Michigan Humane Lobby Day in Lansing to make a tremendous difference for animals. This is an exciting opportunity to meet directly with your elected officials or their staff about legislation that will significantly impact animals. There will be a briefing on tips for lobbying and an overview of pending animal legislation that will prepare you to meet your elected officials and advocate for animals. You don’t have to join the Puppy Mill Awareness Meetup to participate but there is lots of great info on the meetup.com website and sign up is FREE.

Did you know that Sadie, the Scottish Terrier winner of the Westminister Kennel Club Dog Show is from Michigan? Yup, Sadie was bred by Mary O'Neill and is owned by Amelia and Dan Musser who own Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Congratulations to Sadie for a job well done!
