It has been an arduous journey to secure an event in Greater Los Angeles that celebrates comic book culture. For a while, Los Angeles residents would have to travel to San Diego once a year to experience the wonderful world of comic book indulgence at the popular Comi-Con International.
Finally, someone realized that demand was high in L.A. for events similar to these and we now have the Comikaze Expo, described as “the largest multimedia pop culture, comic book, horror, and gaming convention in Los Angeles”.
The first-ever Comikaze Expo is scheduled for November 5th and 6th at the Los Angeles Convention Center near downtown. There will be over 300 vendors and booths, with special appearances by comic book legend, Stan Lee, Academy Award winner Ernest Borgnine, Actress Tippi Hedren, and many others. In addition, entertainer and horror extraordinaire Elvira, best known as the Mistress of the Dark, will be making her last public appearance at the event.
“It’s important for Los Angeles, the city of dreams, to have its own show of this type,” says Stan Lee. “Fans and creators alike can mingle and expand the industry while embracing this city’s vivid and diverse culture.”
The expected 60,000 attendees will get a chance to socialize with anime artists, comic book creators, special effects teams, actors, filmmakers, animators, writers, and celebrities.
The Expo will also showcase the trailer of the highly anticipated film The Woman in Black featuring Daniel Radcliffe, along with a special message from Radcliffe.
There will also be cast reunions for Nickelodeon’s All That and The Police Academy. In addition, DC New 52 will hold a panel and a meet and greet session.
The two-day event is the creation of Comikaze Expo CEO Regina Carpinelli, along with her brother Mario Carpinelli, who thought it would be a great idea when they saw a need for comic-related conventions in Los Angeles. A percentage of proceeds will be donated to the charity Amazon Foundation, a foundation that serves to protect and preserve the Amazon rainforest.
Ticket prices start at $12. For more information about this event, visit http://comikazeexpo.com.
