Comics 101: Dayton comic book stores (part 3)

Maverick's!In addition to the usual reviews of recent comics covered here, this Examiner likes to produce helpful articles now and then regarding the Dayton comic book 'scene'. Now seemed as good a time as any to offer yet another of these, namely by taking a peek at another of Dayton's comic book stores, and explain just why you might want to check it out. This week, we'll be talking about the one and only Maverick's.

What is Maverick's, you ask?

Maverick's is a nifty store down on east Dorothy Lane, about a mile or so west of the I-675 exchange. It's nestled in a small mini-mall (as the photo may suggest), and has a whole lot to offer to the discerning comic book fan. For one thing, they have lots of comics (duh). In addition to the new releases, Maverick's carries a large stock on hand of back issues, some recent and others less so.

But that's not all. In addition to this, they carry a large quantity of collector items, like vintage Gi Joe and Transformer toys, tons of Star Wars figures still on the card, and a whole lot more toy stuff that this Examiner couldn't readily identify (but then he's not an expert on action figures; that's probably some other Examiner running around here somewhere).

And they have cards!

If you dig the baseball card thing, Maverick's can easily take care of you. They've got the Pokemon and other collectible card game material going on as well, so you can readily get your fix for that sort of entertainment as well. And best of all, you're not about to get bad customer service while there; this Examiner talked to several folks, and they were eager to help find oddball items when asked.

Maverick's can be found at 2312 E Dorothy Ln, which is of course over in Kettering, but it's not too far to go from the center of Dayton for your comic book fix. If your store has you down for some reason or another, it couldn't hurt to head on over to Maverick's and check them out. Their easy-going, friendly attitude and unique selection might be enough to keep you coming back!
