On Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21, Baltimore will once again be comic central. The 12th annual Baltimore Comic-Con returns to Charm City and this year's Guest of Honor will be legendary comic book writer and publisher, Stan "The Man" Lee.
Lee known as the architect of the Marvel Universe, along with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko — co-created some of the most iconic characters of the Silver Age, including the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Avengers, X-Men, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Daredevil, Iron Man, and Doctor Strange. Throughout his illustrious career, which has spanned more than 70 years, Lee has been a writer, editor, publisher, President, and Chairman at Marvel Comics. He’s made cameo appearances in 14 films based on his creations and had a supporting role in Kevin Smith’s 1995 film, Mallrats.
The famed comic book oriented convention will again feature great exclusives and limited edition comics, and added to the guest line-up this year are classic comic artists Nick Cardy, Jose-Luis Garcia-Lopez, Kevin Nowlan, and Michael Golden. Their art work (Aquaman, Batman Confidential Man-Thing, Doctor Strange to name a few) has been featured in various comic genres and has inspired generations of artists.
Indy comics creators Dean Haspiel, Thom Zahler, Brad Guigar, Tim Truman, and Neil Vokes, have also been added to this year's show. Baltimore Comic-Con show promoter, Mark Nathan says, “From webcomics to independent press books, these great creators add a depth and richness to the comic industry that helps promote comics to a wider audience through the diversity of genres in which they’ve worked."
