It’s back! The Comic-Con invasion is upon us, and with the arrival of the nerds – er, I mean, comic enthusiasts – come the specials! A slew of restaurants and bars have jumped on the Comic-Con International bandwagon by creating festive drinks, treats, foods and even costume contests. Read below to see what goodies you’ll find this year.
Inspired by classic comic characters, The Cravory is offering three special Comic-Con cookies for the entire month of July, including;
Hulkinator: Green Birthday Cake Dough and Green Sprinkles in a thicker than normal cookie size.
Kryptonite: Decadent Chocolate Dough with Semisweet Chocolate Chips, stuffed with Rolos chocolate and caramel candies.
Chewbacca Treat: Original Cravory Dough with Milk Chocolate Chunks, Thick Caramel Ribbon, Marshmallows.

Located downtown, Encore Champagne Bar & Dining Room will introduce superhero-themed cocktails to celebrate Comic-Con from Thursday, July 24, through Sunday, July 27. Encore will also open early at noon on Thursday, July 24, and Friday, July, 25, to welcome convention attendees.
The cocktails will be priced at $8 each and include The Hammered Hulk, a blend of Malibu Coconut Rum, Blue Curacao, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Midori, pineapple juice and a dash of Sprite; Kryptonite, a mix of Blue Curacao, tequila, lime and simple syrup and garnished with a Cherry Pop Rocks rim; and Joker Juice, made with Giffard Crème de Cassis, Russian Standard Vodka, lemon juice, soda and topped off with a pour of Piper-Heidsieck Brut Cuvee Champagne, all served in a sour apple candy-rimmed glass. A Fizz-tastic Four Champagne flight, priced at $22, will feature four classic varieties: Duval-Leroy Brut, Canard-Duchene Authentic Rosé, Henriot Blanc de Blancs and Piper-Heidsieck Cuvee Sublime Demi-Sec.
To complement the festive drinks, Encore will offer a select menu of favorites starting at noon on Thursday, July 24, and Friday, July 25. Specialty dishes will include a Chicken Liver Mousse with currant and brandy gelée, house pickles, tapenade and crostini for $8; Smoked Salmon Tartare with crème fraîche, fine herbs, capers and crostini for $15; and an Angus Beef Burger with manchego cheese, onion jam, arugula, roasted tomatoes and a special house sauce, priced at $14; among others.
The Heroes Brew Craft Beer Festival returns to San Diego on Saturday, July 26th at the Embarcadero. The beer festival features more than 40 breweries along with food trucks, a costume contest and live music performed on a solar powered stage. Guests are encouraged to wear costumes to this superhero themed beer festival. Live music, food vendors, raffles, and a costume contest will also be available at Comic Con’s only beer festival. Located in the center of downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, Don Chido offers a menu of regionally influenced, Mexican cooking. Mere blocks away from the San Diego Convention Center, Don Chido is showcasing some of Mexico’s most popular cartoons and characters with these Comic-Con inspired cocktails: El Chapulin Colorado (red grasshopper) made with reposado tequila, lime and jaimaica and the Chilindrina made with roasted pepper-infused tequila, cucumber, lime, agave and tajin. Known for their Asian Fusion food, nightlife and Ryan Gosling bathroom, Bang Bang is getting in on the Comic-Con fun too. Located just blocks from the San Diego Convention Center, Bang Bang is kicking off Comic-Con with Elijah Wood (most famous for his role in Lord of the Rings) aka DJ Wooden Wisdom showing off his DJ skills on Thursday, July 24.
Saltbox Dining & Drinking has created eight cocktail specials that will be available Comic-Con weekend from Thursday, July 24 through Sunday, July 27. Examples include La Flama Blanca, tea-infused El Jimador tequila, grapefruit juice, thyme cane syrup, and a float of Pabst Blue Ribbon garnished with one of Chef Jeremiah Bryant’s fried pickles. The Bon Temps Blood Bank is Ron Zacapa Rum with beet puree, lemon juice, ginger cane syrup and chocolate bitters topped with ginger beer and served in a Mason jar with a roasted beet round. RA has created six specials that will run during the conference. Guests will find rolls like the Scallop Kryponite, a mix of kani kama crab and cream cheese rolled in rice and seaweed, lightly tempura battered and topped with scallops and mushrooms baked in dynamite sauce. The Tuna Takei is thinly sliced, seared ahi tuna with onion soy vinaigrette. Perfect for late night feasting, the Zombie Roll is a combination of spicy salmon, cucumber, cilantro and jalapeño rolled and topped with avocado and sriracha. RA’s special menu will be available from open to close Thursday, July 24 through Sunday, July 27.
Guests can fuel up before fighting the convention center crowds with specials at Spike’s like the Bruce Wayne Burger with Sterling Silver beef, a pan-seared Blue Crab cake, bacon, aged cheddar and horseradish mayo, or the Anchor Steam battered Aquaman Fish and Chips. Spike’s will also have a costume contest on Friday, July 25 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The top three costumed guests will all receive prizes. First prize is $150!
The East Village hotspot is known for service with a smile, but during Comic-Con service will also be faster than a speeding bullet. Conceived in the mind of Nate Howell, The Alter Ego boilermaker is a shot of Jsix’s signature Woodford Reserve bourbon paired with a draft of their IPA made by Hess Brewing. Served Mr. Freeze style, each component comes in a glass made of ice. The pair will be sold for $12 during the conference, from Thursday, July 24 to Sunday, July 27.
Puesto has created a super hero to welcome Comic-Con fans, the El Héroe, who has his own special taco and margarita that will only be available during Comic-Con. The El Héroe Taco is a play on surf and turf, made with Puesto's handmade tortilla, lobster and filet mignon, crispy melted cheese, onions, avocado and pistachio jalapeño salsa. The special El Héroe Margarita is made with Gran Centenario, fresh lime, fresh mango, coconut and tajin. The super hero will make appearances on t-shirts and menus. Located in Downtown San Diego's East Village, The Blind Burro is offering Sharknado-inspired specials for crowds on the go. These easy grab-n-go burritos are available with carne asada, pollo or smoked shark meats, with peppers, onions, Oaxaca cheese and rice. Crispy shark tacos are also available for just $5. To create an even larger splash, The Blind Burro has also added a new shark-inspired cocktail to their menu. The Shark Bite, a margarita-style drink made with Espolon Blanco Tequila, Blue Curacao, pineapple juice and lime, is ocean blue in color and topped with a shark gummy worm.
