Well after years of searching the globe for the next member of the Justice League film cast, the role of Amazon Princess Diana of Themiscyra has finally been awarded to a sex pot of epic portions. She's been in such films as Gisele in "Fast & Furious 5" and "Fast & Furious 6," a highly successful franchise.
The sultry brunette was also "Naomi" alongside Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in the spy flick "Knight & Day." It's Israel born actress Gal Gadot, who's a strikingly beautiful former Miss Israel (2004).
The Middle Eastern beauty doesn't have a lengthy resume but it's a very impressive one which is a good thing considering she's going to be the living embodiment of one of the greatest and most powerful female comic book heroines of all time.
Wonder Woman or "Suprema" as the character was first known, was the brain child of American Psychologist William Moulton Morrison. The idea was first suggested by his wife Elizabeth. He created the warrior goddess based on the legends of the fierce female fighters of legend.
The Princess with powers similar to all the Greek Gods was created as a response to the male superheroes that dominated the D.C. line in the 1940's . The idea was to have a heroine with the power of Superman plus all the allure of a good and beautiful woman.
She also has a magic lasso that compels its captive to obey her commands and tell the truth. Morrison is also the creator of the first version of a polygraph. Notice the similarity?
The search for an actress to portray the female portion of D.C.'s Holy Trinity of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman has been an ongoing process for several years now. Spurred on by the hugely successful re-launch of the Batman franchise, Superman: Man of Steel and of course Marvel 's box office onslaught for the past few years, Warner Bros has been itching to get the "Justice League" into theaters.
Now that the final piece of the core unit of the franchise has been acquired the only thing needed is a good script. It remains to be seen if Reynolds will appear as Green Lantern and which other members of the roster will round out the movie team.
One thing is for sure, with Marvel pumping out now stop hits like The Avengers, X-Men and some of their members having individual franchises of their own, Warner Bros and D.C. Comics had better bring their "A" game to if they're going to make up for lost ground. Meanwhile the choice of this new ingénue has already drawn the ire of some diehard fans of the Ambassador of Themiscyra.
The beautiful actress has a frame that's a lot smaller than what would be an accurate depiction of one of the most powerful female characters in the annals of comic book history.
The loyalists feel like a somewhat more physically adept woman would be a more accurate portrayal of D.C.'s most popular female character. Only time will tell if she can pull off what would be the role of a lifetime for any actress.
Examiner is looking forward to a few action packed summer movie seasons for the next few years. Until then here's a little treat. A short film by Rainfall Films of the Amazon Princess. We can only hope the movie version takes hint from this incredible mini epic!
See you in at the concession stand!!
