For the first time in the history of Science Fiction, one man will control the creative destiny of two of the most popular franchises ever. Recently Walt Disney Productions and Lucas Films announced that J.J. Abrams would helm the director's chair for the next three Star Wars films.
J.J. Abrams is already responsible for driving the fantastically re-imagined Star Trek franchise to unimagined heights of box office success. The sub space chatter about the next highly anticipated installment in the Universe where no man has gone before, "Star Trek: Into Darkness" is already starting to bombard the web. Who is this nearly omnipotent figure in the minds of fans of the Sci-fi genre? Here's a brief bio of the Wunderkind of Hollywood.
Born in New York , he's the son of television producer Gerald Abrams and executive producer Carol Abrams. His first real job in the industry was at the tender age of 16 when he did the music for a horror schlock fest called "Nightbeast."
Later as senior in college he wrote a film treatment that was optioned and later turned into the 1990 comedy starring Jim Belushi and Charles Grodin "Taking Care of Business." He followed that up with Harrison Ford and "Regarding Henry," and "Forever Young" with Mel Gibson.
Whew! He was just getting started, His next accomplished was collaborating Jerry Bruckheimer and director Michael Bay on a little flick called "Armageddon." On the small screen he did "Felicity" for the WB Network.
After forming his own production company "Bad Robot" he created hits for ABC like "Alias" and "Lost." He directed Tom Cruise in "Mission Impossible III," after that came his homage to the giant monster genre in 2008's "Cloverfield."
Then came his crowning achievement for the present, the re-imagined "Star Trek" in 2009. On the small screen he created the now cult hit "Fringe." His NBC spy action series "Undercovers" was cancelled in same year it debuted 2010, . He was vindicated on the big screen with the summer blockbuster Super 8 in 2011.
The 2nd installment of "Star Trek" is due out May 17 2013 and now in mere two years 2015 will see a bold new retelling with this new master of Science Fiction will breathe new life into galactic epic that happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away!
