Breaking news! ( At least to this examiner.) At last month's Comic Con, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige stated that a film based on the legendary Nick Fury secret agent character given a new boost I popularity by superstar Samuel Jackson, ( people say this examiner looks like him!) "S.H.I.E.L.D." is being considered as one of the first films to be made after "The Avengers."
Andrew W. Marlowe creator of A.B.C. network's "Castle" had written a screenplay for "Nick Agent: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D." which was side stepped in favor of Fury's cameo's in "Iron Man" and "I.M. 2." and the upcoming "The Avengers." Marlowe is confident that Marvel may still use his script to launch the agent's own franchise.
"The guys at Marvel are really smart guys," Said Marlowe, during the San Diego Comic-Con. "They want to use Nick Fury in 'The Avengers' series. The script I wrote was more of the [Jim] Steranko 'Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.' sort of thing. Part of their concern is that Nick has never really carried his own series. There have been limited runs, special editions... and I think what they're hoping to do is educate the mass audience on Nick Fury before they jump into it."
"And honestly, the stuff we did in that script with the helicarrier and having the helicarrier go down... it's expensive," continued Marlowe. "So they just want to make sure that they have the fan base for that. So if you have any Nick Fury fans out there, go ahead and tell the folks at Marvel that you have an appetite for that kind of movie."
What has always amazed this Examiner was Fury's ability to manipulate the mutants, augmented humans, aliens and monsters that surround him. All with no inherent abilities, just the power of the government and the secrets acquired by his years of adventures in the field of espionage.
We'll have to wait and see how they can pull this one off though. Sam's getting a little mature so a major action film might be tough to pull off unless they pull the "this adventure takes place before," chestnut or the "Flashback" sequence so they can use a younger actor for those scenes.
It's going to very interesting and if Sam's there then so is this Examiner!
