Did you ever wonder how Tony Stark wound up with Captain America's shield in Iron Man 1?

Well soon the secret will be revealed. Up and coming English actor Dominic Cooper ("The Duchess," "An Education") will play industrialist Howard Stark in the "Captain America: The First Avenger" film set for release in 2011. We all know that the movie will take place in the 1940's.

Dom is actually the third actor to portray the father of the playboy/armored avenger. Actors Gerard Sanders (still shots in IM1, and John Slattery in archival film footage in IM2.)

According to Marvel legend, the elder Stark was allegedly killed by a business rival after Tony's mother died of an illness.

Jon Favreau hinted in an interview with MTV that Howard would play a role in the upcoming CA:TFA but how important ? Only Jon and Dom know for sure.

We all remember how Cap's shield was just sitting in Tony's workshop in the first film and in the second film( Spoiler Alert) it was used as a shim to level out the particle collider used to create the new mineral which prolonged Tony's fusion powered heart battery.

This new element was far less toxic than the mineral he was previously using so it saves his life. Remember the hilarious exchange between the Black Widow, Pepper Potts and Iron Man during the heat of battle. It was a riot!

That's a heck of a piece of junk just laying around a workshop. But what else you expect from a guy that has a pole installed in his private jet for the stewardesses to dance around on long flights.

That's our Iron man.

I wonder his dad and Captain America used to party in the forties? Maybe at the Copa Cabana room with Duke Ellington and Cab Calloway? Maybe next summer we'll find out.

Till then keep your flags flying and your armor polished.
