Well comic book fans, Examiner has been hearing rumors that a member of the Green Lantern Corps is circling the chopping block. One of the most controversial and exciting characters in the D.C. Universe is John Stewart. As you know the former marine now architect was the 3rd human selected for service in the Intergalactic force for peace and order by the Guardians of the Universe.
His story is also one of the most tragic, in one of his early missions due to a mistake the planet Xanshi was destroyed. It took years to forgive himself for that error. He was also married to a fellow Green Lantern Katima Tui from Korugar. She was murdered by a Star Sapphire , another offshoot of the Guardians.
He lost his way for a while, joined another intergalactic force for good The Darkstars as their commander and his powers increased as the first mortal Guardian of newly created Mosaic world and then he lost them utterly and the use of his legs as well during a battle with the villain Grayven.
He was even given his wife back but lost her again when a mad Hal Jordan stole all the energy from the Central battery on Oa and became Parallax, but in a parting gift during the now classic Final Night story line Hal Jordan now nearly omnipotent as Parallax restored them before sacrificing himself to save Earth from a Sun-eater.
As the years went on John became one of most popular characters in the D.C. Universe , especially popular with African Americans because he was one the few black superheroes that was given such a complex storyline instead the old" I guess we should have another black super hero" efforts that demographic was used to.
Now with the major renovations that are going in at D.C. his new writer Joshua Fialkov was informed that Stewart was circling the chopping block and he refused the scribing duties because he didn't want his name associated with the death of such a popular and necessary character of the D. C. universe.
Stewart's popularity was empirically substantiated when the news of this story broke! The web was on fire with the disapproval of comic books fans of every color not just African Americans. Examiner is in total agreement because John is from Detroit, it may be just a bit biased about a hometown favorite.
Not to worry though, because of the uproar created about this news, D.C. has changed their minds about killing him and he'll be around for a while longer.
That's good news for an industry that's often been accused of not recognizing minorities while making tons of money off them with box office receipts, sales of the books and merchandise.
Remember if you are a minority you must buy the books and support minority characters constantly in order for companies like D.C. and Marvel to keep creating them. Also contact them often and let them know how you feel about them, requests for merchandise with their likenesses and such. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease!
