Comic Book Movies! 2013 and beyond (Photos)

We've heard a lot of news for the new releases coming to theaters this year for the summer blockbuster season. This is a little recap of what we're all excited for and development news on for the stampede of superhero films on the way.

First up, Man of Steel directed by Zack Snyder will be out June 14. The trailer looks amazing, giving viewers the feel of deep storytelling of the epic that is Superman. We now know the super villain, who is a favorite amongst many fans, will be Zod. Everyone will definitely be in hopes of him telling humanity to kneel before him in only the way he can. So, we can expect a rich story and awesome clashes of strength between Zod and Superman bringing exciting action to the film. We won't have to suffer through like 3 hours of Superman being a bad absentee father and bickering with Lex Luthor as in the very boring Superman Returns.

Kick-Ass 2! The first was terrific and now we get to see more of what was a beautiful marriage of humor and violence in a world where regular people try to fight crime. The comics were so gruesome, readers wondered how much from the original medium could be put into a movie for mainstream audiences. A few minor tweaks in the events such as the mob boss being blown to shit by a rocket launcher as opposed in the book where Kick-Ass shoots him in the dick and Hit-Girl hacking him up with a meat cleaver. Quick and minimally painful rather than the slow, gruesome way. Kick-Ass 2, the comic, is even more gut-wrenching so we'll see how the studio tones down the violence while still keeping it pretty violent for the next film. We all can't want to see Kick-Ass versus The Motherfucker. Oh yeah, and Jim Carrey! This will be the second time Carrey's in a mvie based on a comic since The Mask in 94.

With a new director, Iron Man 3 seems to be taking a more serious and darker tone for Tony Stark's next superhero outting. Shane Black, writer of Lethal Weapon and director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, replaces Jon Favreau. Favreau will be in the movie and has taking the job of executive producer this time around. Iron Man will face off against his classic arch-nemesis The Mandarin, played by Ben Kingsley. Using the power of ten rings he attempts to destroy our hero. The Ten Rings was also the name of the terrorist cell who kidnapped Stark in the first film, which hints that The Mandarin may have been involved since the beginning. Another important note, the ten rings of power come from alien technology. If this is mentioned in the film it may tie-in to the arrival of Thanos in the next Avengers movie. The casts remains the same and the movie will hit theaters May 3rd.

Lastly, it's time to mention few things we know about the Guardians of the Galaxy film. James Gunn, director of such films as Dawn of the Dead, Scooby-Doo 2, and the much loved Super, will be at the helm of this picture. Quick recommendation, check out James Gunn's PG Porn, it's quite hilarious. And totally safe, I kinda promise. The cast announced so far will be Park and Recreation's Chris Pratt who is going to play the Star Lord, Peter Quill. Pratt's played serious roles before so he may prove capable portraying a superhero and leader of the guardians. The other known cast member will be former WWE superstar Dave Batista or Bautista (I tend to spell it the way I saw it on wrestling but, it's written with the U everywhere else). Batista will fill the role of Drax the Destroyer, Drax's sole purpose is to kill Thanos so Thanos may be the main villain in this movie. The film may most likely result in Thanos' defeat in which might be the reason he flees to earth and answer the question as to how he met Loki in the first place. Guardians of the Galaxy is slated to open 2014 around August.
