Comic book movie updates!

So remember how we discussed comic book movies coming out this year? Let's do it again! Before we dive into the new stuff, let it be said that the Dallas Comedy Examiner is a true comic book fan as well, and one of discerning taste apparently, because he posted a great article featuring the brand new Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World trailer. Read it, watch it, subscribe to him.

The Losers, stars nerd-film veterans Jeffery Dean Morgan (Watchmen), Zoe Saldana (Star Trek, Avatar), Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Scott Pilgrim) Idris Elba (Thor). Based on the Vertigo comic of the same name by Andy Diggle (Daredevil, Thunderbolts) and Jock (Green Arrow: Year One, Detective Comics), it hits theaters on April 23rd. Warner Bros. describes it as

A tale of double cross and revenge, centered upon the members of an elite U.S. Special Forces unit sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The team-Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar -find themselves the target of a lethal betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max. Presumed dead, the group makes plans to even the score when they're joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking the heavily-guarded Max, a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war.

Cover to Red issue #1.

Many years ago, Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner created a spectacular 3-issue limited series called Red. It featured a retired CIA operative who is forced back into the game to get revenge on the agency that trained him. If thefilm is as entertaining as the book, then hopefully people will flock to the theaters in droves. It features an all-star cast: Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Mary-Louise Parker. Filming started a couple of months ago and it should be released Oct. 22. Do yourself a favor and read this gripping, fast-paced story before seeing the movie. Oh, and on a recent set visit, after comments aboutthe greatness of Helen Mirren with a sniper rifle, Warren Ellis tweets:

I just met Helen Mirren and had to have a cigarette afterwards. You understand, right?

Loved the Red series, but how do you make a movie out of three issues?

A: Add more characters! That's why all those good names are attached. They are adding a bit to the story.
