Comedies bring laughs at Florida Keys theaters during Memorial Day weekend

Visitors and residents of the Florida Keys this Memorial Day weekend have at least three theatrical options for tickling their funny bone.

Marathon Community Theater presents "Marrying Terry," a comedy in its final weekend, Thursday through Saturday, May 22 – 24 at 8 p.m.

Terry Adams is a name shared by a rare books librarian and a forgettable radiologist. One has booked the last room at the Drake Hotel in Chicago during a blizzard in the hopes of getting engaged. The other has reluctantly just gotten engaged and inadvertently celebrates a bit too much in the Drake's bar. Mistaken identities, out and out deception, delayed planes, missed phone calls and too many well-intentioned friends popping by are all part of this romantic comedy. Visit the theatre's website for tickets at www.marathontheater.org or contact: 305-743-0994 or gm@marathontheater.org.

Visitors to Key West have two options this weekend. The Waterfront Playhouse presents: A Dog Story, the musical tail, uh, tale, of Roland, a 29-year-old career-driven lawyer looking for a wife. He follows the advice of his womanizing best buddy: get a dog for the summer as a ready-made conversation starter. When Roland adopts tiny (and invisible-to-the-audience) Cupid, his world is turned upside down. Showtime is at 8 p.m. Call the box office at 305-294-5015 or email: Box_Office@waterfrontplayhouse.org

The Red Barn Theatre in Key West presents Short Attention Span Theatre's "Random Acts of Comedy!" This is a fresh assortment of 10-minute plays that are funny and thought-provoking. They are written by various playwrights starring various actors, directed by Mimi McDonald and others! Visit the website, www.redbarntheatre.com, for show dates, times and tickets.
