Comedian Rich Guzzi’s mantra is Start Joking! Stop Smoking! After decades of performing comedy on stage and radio, he has embarked on an anti-smoking campaign. In conjunction with the Great American Smoke-Out, he embarked on a comedy show tour with the goal of helping at least 100,000 people kick the habit. He has parlayed his comic talents into a highly entertaining hypnosis show that requires maximum audience participation. The show becomes a rock concert when Guzzi invites people from the audience on stage to participate in the hypnosis part of the performance. Audience volunteers shed their inhibitions and perform the most outrageously funny things you can imagine. They become super heroes, swimwear models, singers or dancers - anything is possible!
Each tour stop will feature a wild night of self-awareness and metaphysical mayhem that is sure to have audiences members laughing till it hurts, as well as learning a little about the power of the subconscious mind. He is performing in Los Angeles on December 17; however, in contrast to his other performances, it is a private show. Most of his shows are along the East Coast; however, for those that can’t make one of his performances, Guzzi offers an alternative. A DVD of his show as well as a stop smoking CD are available on his website.
The motivation for Guzzi’s anti-smoking campaign is his father’s death due to smoking-related heart disease; this year marks the 30th Anniversary of his father¹s death. According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the four leading causes of death in the county are (1) Coronary heart disease; (2) Stroke; (3) Lung cancer; and (4) Emphysema. Many of these deaths are attributable to smoking.
