Nope, it's not a joke: Steve Martin, accomplished actor and one of the "wild and crazy guys" on those classic 1970s Saturday Night Live sketches, is also an acclaimed banjo player who could take home his fourth Grammy Award next weekend.
Martin is nominated for Best Bluegrass Album at the 2010 Grammy Awards for The Crow: New Songs For The Five-String Banjo. Martin promoted the album last fall with a nationwide concert tour. The album features guest appearances from Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, and a number of other respected performers.
Martin's three previous Grammy Awards include two for Best Comedy Recording in the late '70s. He also claimed the 2001 award for Best Country Instrumental Performance for the song "Foggy Mountain Breakdown." He shared that award with a dozen co-performers, including Randy Scruggs, Marty Stuart, Paul Shaffer, and Jerry Douglas.
Will Steve Martin win Grammy #4 for his banjo album? Martin is said to be the big favorite to take home the award. We'll find out next Sunday.
The 2010 Grammy Awards air on CBS on January 31.

Good write up, but I'm not so much a Steve Martin fan..ehhh
Steve Martin is not just a great performer, but he's a great man. His autobiography is perhaps the best celebrity memoir I ever read. Gave me a new appreciation for him.
Yes, just heard he is a banjo player. Interesting.
Thanks for the info!
