Comedian Joan Rivers has died at the age of 81 as reported by CNN today (Sept. 4, 2014). Melissa Rivers, daughter, confirmed the death by saying, "She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends."
Rivers was admitted to Manhattan's Mount Sinai hospital last week after undoing a procedure at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic for a throat problem. Rivers quit breathing during the procedure, suffering from both cardiac and respiratory distress and was transferred to Mount Sinai hospital by ambulance. River's condition was listed as critical. Her condition was later disclosed to being on life support.
A funeral will be held for Rivers on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan. Details concerning the funeral have not yet been disclosed.
Tributes from celebrities and friends of the comedian have been pouring in. Melissa Rivers and her son have expressed their thanks for the outpour of love by releasing this statement, "Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated."
