Lunken Airport Days 5K will take place Sunday September 7 on the Lunken Bike Trail on the Levee along the river. This is a family run/walk event to be followed by the Airport Days festivities, with the funds of the race to benefit both the Cincinnati Fisher House Foundation, a network of comfort homes which provide a free place for military or veteran families to stay while a relative receives treatment, and the Lunken Civil Air Patrol Squadron 078, which provides American youth with leadership training through interest in aviation and also provides service to the Air Force and local communities. For all of you military and veteran families there will be all kinds of exciting events included in the Lunken Airport Days festivities, included free after the race, so you should think about heading down for the events!
On race day, packet pickup and race day registration will open at 7:30am. Parking will be available at the Lunken Bike Trail lot or in front of the Airport, 262 Wilmer Ave. The race will start at 9:00am with the course a fast, flat out and back race on the bike trail. After the race will be refreshments and door prizes along with the awards ceremony. Awards will be given to the top overall male and female runner and walker, top male and female runner in each division and the top male and female walker in each division. The Airport Days festivities will begin at 10am. The festivities will contain the most famous WWII bomber, the B-17, along with many planes from the Tri-State Warbird Museum. Special guest, WWII pilot and author Herb Heilbrun will be in attendance signing his book Black and White Airmen.
Registration is $20 through 9/4, available online with a small fee, or you can print the form and mail it in postmarked by 9/2. There is $25 race day registration as well.
