I am really looking forward to attending the upcoming Social Media Day in my area of San Diego. This day is a celebration all around the world of networks and how they have created via social platforms. Mashable launched Social Media Day in 2010 as a way to simply recognize and honor the incredible revolution that is happening around the world thanks to social media. Each day millions upon millions of people use varying social media platforms to connect with their friends and family, as well as get up-to-date news information and upload photos. Social media is constantly evolving and although it is often scrutinized as well as celebrated, people are finding new and different ways to use social media in their everyday lives.

All around the world, thousands of people celebrated Social Media Day last year. Places such as Australia, Costa Rica and Sri Lanka saw some of the most highly attended events. Many cities in the United States also attracted large crowds in places like Detroit, Miami and our own San Diego. Some places such as Ahmedabad, India and San Pedro Sula in Honduras hosted events for Social Media Day and started their traditions for the first time last year. Participants were treated to all-day panel discussions and nighttime networking parties. This year promises to be even better!

Social Media Day is a great way for people from all walks of life to get involved. According to Peek Analytics, more than 118,000 tweets were sent regarding Social Media Day last year, with 20,000 of those mentions on June 30. Everyone from celebrities to professional sports teams, to non-profits and entertainment brands tweeted messages about Social Media Day to their followers. People from 117 countries were a part of Social Media Day well wishes as well. Topsy Pro reported that the global reach of this day went to more than 147 million accounts on Twitter.

This year’s Social Media Day in San Diego will be held at the beautiful Marriott Marquis Marina downtown. This event will be hosted by Rob Marlbrough (aka Downtown Rob), who is the owner of Web Wizards WordPress Services and also runs Downtownrob.com, a guide to San Diego’s best, luxurious, and unique. His co-host will be Tyler J. Anderson, the founder/CEO of Casual Fridays, a social media agency in San Diego and co-Founder of Scoreboard Social, a social media reporting software application.

Social Media Day in San Diego will start promptly at 10:00am and will offer one educational track this year packed with superb speakers on vital social media topics, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Vine, podcasting, and more.
