Established by Bill Douglas of Kansas City in 1999, World Tai Chi & Qigong Day is a non-political event that is celebrated by thousands of big or small cities around the world on the last Saturday in April each year. Beginning with countries and islands in the Pacific Ocean, people will start Tai Chi (Taiji) and Qigong practice at 10 a.m. local time. The celebration will continue westward and conclude in Hawaii. It is estimated that this year 90 countries will participate this year. People with different age groups, political views, economic status, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds all celebrate this event to enjoy the healing energy of Tai Chi and Qigong.
Teaming up with Chesterfield Mall (located in West County by I-64 and Clarkson Road), West County YMCA will host a celebration on Saturday April 26. Tai Chi and Qigong instructors and schools in the metro-St. Louis area are invited to perform or practice various styles and forms of Tai Chi and Qigong. As of now, St. Louis T’ai Chi Ch’uan Association and instructors Herb Parran, Anna Lum, Linda Gatson, Wendy Richards, Judy Zhao, and Paul Reed, among others, will attend. There will also be audience participation exercises led by experienced instructors. No experience is needed to participate. In 2012, the St. Louis Tai Chi community put on a spectacular performance of St. Louis Tai Chi 24 Form in Missouri Botanical Garden. Based on a popular demand, St. Louis 24 Form will be practiced during this event.
