According to a public notice from the Comcast Corporation sent to customers of their subsidiary Comcast Cablevision of Mobile during the month of December, the corporation was set to begin implementing a plan for subsidiaries such as the one in Mobile to start charging customers of their video services a "Broadcast TV Fee" of $1.50 per month on Wednesday, January 1st, 2014, due to the costs of providing feeds from local TV stations through their cable TV systems getting higher.

Initially the plan would only affect customers who start receiving these video services after it takes effect on January 1st, according to the notice, because the corporation had planned on waiving the fee for customers who had been receiving those services from before that date until Sunday, June 1st, 2014.
