Comcast today announced that it donated more than $1.6 million in cash and in-kind resources to more than 70 community organizations throughout New Mexico in 2012. Comcast supports local communities by providing access to innovative technology, volunteering time, giving financial support and partnering with organizations that provide critical services and support for New Mexico citizens.
The Comcast Foundation awarded grants totaling $69,000 to the following New Mexico organizations: Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce, Boys & Girls Club of Gallup, US First Robotics Program, LULAC National Education Service Center, Youth Development, Inc. Additional key community partners in 2012 included the Albuquerque Public Schools Foundation, Goodwill Industries of New Mexico, Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce, Farmington Chamber of Commerce, WESST, as well as United Ways of Central New Mexico, San Juan, Eastern New Mexico, Quay County, Santa Fe County, and Southwest New Mexico.
New Mexico employees donated more than $70,000 through Comcast’s annual United Way Employee Giving Campaign. Nationally, Comcast raised a record $6.7 million-plus in this year’s employee campaign to support local United Way agencies.
More than 4,000 volunteers participated in Comcast Cares Day. Cares Day partner organizations received cash grants from The Comcast Foundation totaling more than $68,000.
Through the Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholarship Program, a total of $34,000 in college scholarship funding was awarded to 25 New Mexico students, with 24 students receiving $1,000 each, and one receiving $10,000.
Expanding Digital Literacy
Comcast invests in digital literacy and broadband adoption programs across the country through three signature programs, as well as through Comcast Foundation funding of many more local efforts.
One of this year’s local recipients is The YDI Computer Club House, receiving a $12,000 grant for a free after-school program that provides computer training and homework assistance to K-12 grade students.
The Comcast Foundation has donated more than $16 million this year to nonprofit organizations in the communities it serves nationwide. Since 1999, the Comcast Foundation has donated more than $123 million.
In addition to the grants from the Comcast Foundation, Comcast also responds to community needs through local sponsorships and in-kind support.
