Combination of coastal low pressure and cold front brings another day of rain

See also

Another area of low pressure, and a secondary cold front, will impact the Capital Region today, bringing some more light rain to the region during the course of the day. Areas north and west of the Capital Region may see some mixed precipitation. Colder air will move into the region beginning tonight and lasting through the Christmas holiday. Temperatures will return to below normal readings after today, through the midweek period.

Cold high pressure will build into the region through Christmas day, before translating off the New England coast by the second half of the shortened work week. Thus, with the high pressure system to the east of the region, the airmass will moderate some with regard to temperatures, rising back to near normal levels for this time of year. Several weak disturbances will ride to the north of the region by week’s end. To these system’s detriment, there will be little appreciable moisture for them to work with, and thus they should only be able to bring some increased cloud cover, and perhaps a little light snow or flurry activity to the region.
