COLUMBUS-- Columbus State Community College invited students, staff and members of the public to take part in a free day of classes Saturday as part of its 50th anniversary celebration.
"Columbus State Day" drew hundreds of people to campus for free classes on writing, math, history, political science, and other subjects. All discussions were free and open to the public.
The daylong event concluded with a presentation by Shane Lopez, a psychologist with Gallup, who discussed the importance of hope. Lopez has studied the effects of hope on people for 15 years. He is the author of "Making Hope Happen" and frequently speaks on college campuses about the importance of developing a positive attitude about the present and how it can affect your future.
