One of the scandal-fighting Gladiators is leaving the popular ABC political thriller created by Shonda Rhimes. Columbus Short, 31, who plays attorney Harrison Wright, is leaving the show due to legal issues he’s been faced with in the last year. Short is making his exit leaving behind three successful seasons on the show.

In a statement released on Friday, Short reveals, “At this time, I must confirm my exit from a show I've called home for three years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today. I would like to first thank Shonda Rhimes for the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast."

His withdrawal from the show is due to two pending criminal cases: one accusing him of misdemeanor spousal battery and the second for felony battery that seriously injured a man during a fracas at a West Hollywood restaurant in March.

On February 14, Short was charged with misdemeanor spousal battery where he pleaded not guilty. The judge ordered him to keep his distance from wife, Tanee McCall, during their March 5 court hearing. The actor has been in jail at least three times in the past three months after the violence accusations.

Tanee McCall revealed in her temporary restraining order that her husband began choking her one night while she was asleep, threatening to kill himself and her, chased her around the house, dragged her from a room, and threw her on the floor. The hearing to extend the restraining order will be held on May 6. She is currently seeking a divorce after nine years of marriage, as well as legal and physical custody of their two year-old daughter.

The result, if convicted, will be four years in state prison. The case will be revisited in court on May 13.

"Everything must come to an end, and unfortunately the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit the canvas," Short said. "I wish nothing but the best for Shonda, Kerry and the rest of the cast, who have become like a second family to me in such a short amount of time. For this, I will forever be grateful,” Short added in his statement.

Harrison Wright’s fate on the Season 3 finale was left a cliffhanger.
