A Columbus, Ohio man, 30 year-old Willie Casey, was murdered at a bus stop in front of a Kroger grocery store in the early morning hours of Thursday, August 29, 2013. Casey was walking his dog and had apparently approached customers in the Kroger parking lot in the 2000 block of E. Main St., asking to use a cell phone so that he could call someone for a ride home.
After reaching the COTA bus stop in front of the store, Willie L. Casey was approached by a young black male, wearing a red muscle shirt or tank top and white shorts, according to a Kroger security guard and at least one other person who witnessed the shooting. The suspect fired several shots, killing Casey. The suspect fled the scene and had still not been apprehended as of Thursday afternoon.
Traffic in the area of the Kroger store, at the corner of E. Main and Holtzman, was re-routed for several hours Thursday morning as police secured the area, from E. Main and Nelson Rd. to E. Main and Alum Creek, to investigate and gather evidence where Casey was gunned down.
In an interview with 10-TV News, Casey’s mother stated that she cannot bring herself to believe her son is dead, that she spoke to him just about an hour before he was killed.
Law enforcement officials are still investigating.
