Mark Richt and the Georgia Bulldogs picked up a much needed road win, 27-13, against Ole Miss in a September 24th game at Oxford.
The Bulldogs received a strong performance from freshman runnng back and Columbus, Georgia native Isaiah Crowell, who ran the ball a game-high 30 times for 147 yards.
Georgia attempted to build momentum after administering last week's 59-0 beatdown of Coastal Carolina. Additionally, the Bulldogs needed a conference win badly after losing at home to Steve Spurrier's South Carolina team on September 10th in Athens, 45-42.
Since 1997, Georgia has won eight straight games in this series against the Running Rebels. The Bulldogs improve their overall record to 2 and 2 and 1 and 1 in the SEC while Houston Nutt's Ole Miss team drops to 1 and 3 overall and 0 and 2 in the SEC.
The Bulldogs need to have a fast start and get ahead and by the end of the first quarter a Blair Walsh FG and a rushing touchdown from Aaron Murray provided a 10-0 lead.
Defensively, the Bulldogs held Ole Miss to 183 yards of total offense and forced Randall Mackey to be mostly one dimensional. The 5'11 junior quarterback was only 3-for-7 passing for 78 yards with one passing touchdown and one interception.
The Ole Miss defense couldn't stop the 5-foot-11, 215-pound Crowell as he set the tone for the Bulldogs' offense and converted on several long runs.
Crowell's performance helped to make things easier for Bulldogs' quarterback Aaron Murray, who completed 17 of 26 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns.
Georgia is in a position to turn around their season and squash coaching rumors surrounding Mark Richt, but has a stiff road test against Mississippi State along with games versus Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
