If you are looking to lose weight and want to incorproate outdoor fitness activities into your attempt, then Columbus is a great city for you. One of the best outdoor fitness resources that we have in this city is the Columbus Metro Park System. Fifteen parks are spread around the city and offer outdoor recreation and fitness that are easily accessible from any neighborhood.
Hiking is the first activity that comes to mind when discussing the Metro Parks, and for good reason. Highbanks, Chestnut Ridge, and Clear Creek provide some of the best hiking opportunities in the Metro Parks. Biking certainly should not be overlooked in the parks. Blacklick Woods, Pickerington Ponds, Three Creeks, and Heritage Park all have excellent biking paths, and plans are currently underway to connect the former three parks through a dedicated bike path. Finally, fun activities like disc golf should not be discounted either. Both Blendon Woods and Glacier Ridge offer disc golf courses, with the course at Glacier Ridge being free to play.
The fifteen Metro Park areas are: Battelle Darby Creek, Blacklick Woods, Blendon Woods, Chestnut Ridge, Clear Creek, Glacier Ridge, Heritage Park, Highbanks, Inniswood, Pickerington Ponds, Prairie Oaks, Scioto Audubon, Sharon Woods, Slate Run, and Three Creeks. All of these parks offer a wide variety of outdoor activities that are not only fun, but very convenient for everyone in Columbus. It is very easy to fit these activities into your workout regimen, and almost as easy to forget that you are getting good exercise while you are out enjoying the parks.
