Yesterday, Sunday, October 18th, 2009, was the 30th Annual Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon and 1/2 Marathon.  The race began at 7:30am.  Runners and walkers were bundled up to bear the 30 degree temperatures and wind that was whipping through downtown.  The 15,000 participants took off on their course of choice.  The course went through some of the best parts of Columbus including Downtown, Bexley, Olde Town East, German Village, Short North, Ohio State, Upper Arlington, Victorian Village and the Arena District. The marathon course offered 21 fluid stations with both water and Gatorade.  At miles 7.5 and 16 athletes were offered Clif energy gel.

The top finisher for the marathon was Matthew Folk with a time of 2:20:45 for the men, and Rachel Kinsmen with a time of 2:47:44 for the women.

The Columbus Marathon has been ranked in the top 10 marathons for the fall by USA Today and in the top 20 marathons by Runner's World.  Check out the official Columbus Marathon website if you or someone you know ran the race to find out times and see pictures from the event.
