Columbus' Franklin Park Conservatory welcomes 'Blooms & Butterflies

Running from March 8 through September 28, 2014, visitors can once again enjoy the sight of hundreds of vividly colors exotic butterflies and gorgeous blooming flowers at the Franklin Park Conservatory's 20th annual "Blooms & Butterflies" exhibit in Columbus, Ohio. It is approximately a 2 hour drive from Cleveland to Columbus.

"Blooms & Butterflies" The exhibit features dozens of species of butterflies flying freely from countries all over the world like China, El Salvador, Costs Rica, Tanzania, Japan, the Philippines and Kenya released into the Pacific Island Water Garden at the Conservatory.

Visitors can view butterflies as small as 1.5 inches and as large as the 12 inch Atticus Atlas moth amidst a wide variety of tropical blooms.

Visitors wil also get the opportunity to see new butterflies emerge from their chrysalises and watch them fly for the first time during daily presentations.

This year's opening date is March 8 and there will lots of fun, family-oriented activities that visitors can participate in and plenty of entertainment including face painting, getting a temporary tattoo, balloon artists and the chance to get your photo taken with The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Opening day festivities also include performances by Shizzle Dizzle Magic (at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.) and there will be cake to enjoy (until it runs out).

Special exhibits taking place at "Blooms & Butterflies" from May 17 to September 21 include "Amazing Butterflies", an interactive display that allows you to "shrink down" and become a butterfly and lets you explore the unusual relationship between caterpillars, butterflies and their natural surroundings and then lets you transform into a butterfly and take flight.

Also offered from May 17 to September 21 is a display called "Blue Butterflies: Migration Across America" from Indiana-based artist Tasha Lewis featuring over 3000 cyanotype butterflies printed on cotton fabric hanging in the Cardinal Health Gallery where air currents in the Gallery will allow the blue-winged butterflies to move ever so slightly.

Hours for the "Blooms & Butterflies" exhibit are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily. Admission is $12 for adults, $9 for seniors and $6 for children (3-17). Parking is free.
