If you are sick of the snow and ice on your sidewalk, there is good news in this weather forecast for you. By this coming weekend, it may feel more like spring than the middle of winter as we head into a full blown January thaw.
The winter coats will still be of use this morning. Low temperatures will be in the upper 20s in Columbus when the sun comes up just before 8 a.m. Expect plenty of sun on your Tuesday with the warming trend commencing as early as this afternoon. Highs will reach the middle 40s which is a full ten degrees warmer than yesterday. This will put a big dent in the ice still coating many area sidewalks and parking lots from the snow over the holidays.
High pressure will remain in control of the forecast for Wednesday as highs remain in the upper 40s. An area of low pressure will move northeast through the Midwest on Thursday. The warm front associated with this system will slide through the Ohio Valley bringing a good chance for rain. Expect showers to begin Thursday afternoon and persist through Friday morning. If you have plans Friday night, we should be rain free by that time. Highs will soar into the 50s on Friday with temperatures remaining mild in the upper 40s for Friday evening.
The warmest day of the next seven appears to be Saturday. As a much larger storm system brews to our west, strong southerly winds will transport very mild air into our region. Highs could potentially top 60 degrees but rain will become increasingly likely as the day rolls on. So while your winter coat will get a break, your rain coat will probably be needed.
A strong cold front is forecast to blast through Ohio on Sunday bringing a quick drop in temperatures back towards reality. Rain will still be likely on Sunday with the most likely time for rain being in the morning hours.
Signs are pointing towards a much colder weather pattern for the second half of January. Enjoy this week of warm weather because winter will return soon with more chances for snow!
