South Carolina’s capital city has a new rising fashionista! Her name is Kharlybia Roane, and she is a 17 year old Senior at Dreher High School. Kharlybia was recently chosen by Peruvian designer, Luis Machicao, to walk the runway for his collection showings in New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week. She was also the recipient of the Modeling Association of America International’s Model of the Year award during its 53rd Annual Showcase in Miami Beach, Florida. She was also awarded a $10,000 scholarship from the NY Conservatory of Dramatic Arts and another $10,000 scholarship from The NY Film Academy; both scholarships were awarded for acting.
What’s make Kharlybia’s recent successes even more inspirational is her lifelong battle with sickle cell. Kharlybia was born with this blood disorder, which affects red blood cells causing organ damage, anemia, and chronic episodes of pain. Although this disease can be very debilitating, Kharlybia has decided not let it become a weakness.
To prove that she’s not just all beauty, Kharlybia plans to study forensic science and is currently considering attending Winthrop University. On her downtime, you can find her hanging out with her friends, posting on social media, and just being an ordinary teen.
