Auditions are now underway for the much anticipated Columbia Pictures feature film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Oscar nominated director David Fincher has signed on to helm the movie. Fincher has directed such films as Panic Room, Zodiac, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and the recently completed The Social Network.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is an award-winning crime novel by the late Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson, the first in his "Millennium Trilogy." At his death in November 2004 he left three unpublished novels that made up the trilogy.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo became a posthumous best-seller and publishing phenomenon in several European countries.
The Swedish film production company Yellow Bird produced a film version of the Millennium Trilogy - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Men Who Hate Women (the film title of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), opened in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland in February-March 2009. So far, it has been seen by more than 2.5 million people in those countries. In Norway and Denmark it is the most viewed Swedish film ever.
Daniel Craig, George Clooney, Johnny Depp, and Brad Pitt are all interested in playing the central role of Mikael Blomkvist. Twilight's Kristen Stewart and Juno's Ellen Page have expressed interest to play Lisbeth Salander, as well as Carey Mulligan.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is widely considered the hot project in the entertainment industry right now, especially since there will be two more installments of the Millennium Trilogy by the late Stieg Larsson right behind this film.
Casting for the film's lead and supporting roles are taking place in Los Angeles, with smaller featured roles and extras being cast in both Los Angeles and Stockholm.
Information on how talent can submit to the casting directors is posted on the following website:

Shooting will take place from August, 2010 through March, 2011 in Los Angeles, and all exterior filming will take place in Stockholm, Sweden in October, 2010.

They should just stick with the original lead actress. I don't see any American actress that can play her...maybe A. Jolie but she's too old for the role.
I vote Ellen Page to play Lisbeth Salander.
Please no Kristen Stewart. She is one of the most deadpan actors out there. Drives me insane. lol
I would like to know how can people outside the U.S. audition for things like this and can they???
Kristen won't do it because she already has 3 other projects, but I think she'd be great for the role.
i think i should play the part:)
Yeah, no kristen, she drove twilight box office insane too and that's why summit continues to keep her not so lucky for columbia pix to have her drive "gril tattoo" box office insane. WooHoo.
Ellen Page! Don't be stupid.
Watch Hard Candy with Ellen Page. She can totally pull this off....
Not a comment on casting but I really hope they make the plot better. I've seen the Swedish version and the fact that Anita is dead in the movie verses alive in the book really bugs me and ruined the movie for me. I know books made in to movies can't be word for word but hopefully the US version will be better than that.
My vote would be for Stephanie Hunt(Devin) from the Friday Night Lights series. An unknown so far but an excellent actress.
you just need to send your acting cv and head shot to the director or find out when or if there having open auditions.
Are the auditions over for this?
Is there even a remote possibility for someone who doesnt live in America to apply?
