A Columbia man was arrested Monday after for the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl who asked him for a ride.
Mr. Kevin Felix Alvarez, 24, was charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to Columbia police.
The child told police she was acquainted with Mr. Alvarez and asked him for a ride to a location Sunday.
Investigators did not say where the child wanted to go. But the man allegedly took her somewhere else and kept her overnight, police spokeswoman Ms. Jennifer Timmons said.
At 7 a.m., police found a car at the back of a vacant residence at 3014 Columbia Ave., Ms. Timmons said.
The suspect and victim were found partially clothed inside the car, Ms. Timmons said.
“It is alleged that Alvarez and the minor also slept in the car since last night,” Ms. Timmons said.
Mr. Alvarez was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and the child was transported to a local hospital before being released to her mother.
