Columbia mall shooting update: Shooter's body handled with abundance of caution

The Columbia mall shooting has left three people dead, with one of the dead being the shooter. Police have now released some information on the two victims. They are a male and a female, who are both employees of the mall in Maryland. Reports put the two dead victims in their 20s, according to Fox News live on Saturday Jan. 26.

CNN News confirms on Saturday evening that Howard County Police Chief Bill McMahon told reporters that the shooter had shot and killed a man and woman, both who were store employees. The gunman then turned the gun on himself and was found dead in a store on the second floor.

The motive is unclear at this time. Knowing now that the two people who the shooter killed were both employees of the same store on the second floor sounds as if this may not have been random, but that is speculation. Nothing for sure will be known until police release the information at their next press conference.

Another bit of information that the police just released is about the shooter. While his identity is not known, his body remains right where he killed himself in the mall. This is done out of an “abundance of caution,” as they are concerned that he may have some type of explosive on his body that isn’t seen from the position he is laying in.

From the amount of ammunition that the shooter brought with him, it appeared that he had plans of shooting for quite some time. Something changed because after the two store employees were shot, he became the third and last victim of this shooting spree.

Police just want to make sure that when they go to remove his body there isn’t any danger of something being triggered. The police have a special unit taking care of securing his body before it is picked up and transported.
