Today, Aug. 19, “American Idol” alum, Colton Dixon, officially released his sophomore album. The album is titled, “Anchor,” and features Dixon’s new singles, “More of You” and “Dare to Believe.” “Anchor” is a follow-up to Dixon’s debut album, “A Messenger,” which he originally released back in 2013. Earlier this year, the expanded version of the album was released, featuring additional new music.
Colton Dixon first stepped into the limelight during Season 11 of “American Idol.” While Dixon quickly became a favorite among fans, he fell victim to an unexpected early exit in the competition when he was voted out and finished in seventh place. (Phillip Phillips ultimately went on to win that season).
After Dixon’s time on “Idol,” he ventured into the world of Christian music, where he has remained since. According to Colton’s official website, his first album even set a record: “A Messenger” set the record for highest first-week sales for a new, solo Christian act. Overall, for 2013, it was the top-selling album from any new Christian artist.
“Anchor” has special meaning with Dixon. On his website, he explains the new album title came to him as he realized he needed to stay anchored and not stray from what he was supposed to be doing. It also reminds him not to allow himself to get distracted from the path he is on.
Colton’s tour schedule will be even busier this year than last. In addition to an appearance in Walt Disney World on Sep. 6, Dixon is set to join the 2014 Winter Jam Tour later this year. Fellow performers include Jeremy Camp, Hillsong United, and Francesca Battistelli.
Until then, Colton Dixon is simply excited to have his sophomore album hit store shelves. He has been promoting the album’s release heavily on social media, reminding his Twitter fans they could pre-order the album and when it officially became available today:
It's here!!!! It's here!!! Extra! Extra! Read all about it!!! ANCHOR is out now! http://smarturl.it/Anchor
It’s safe to say Dixon is excited for this album release – although, he did find the time to complete the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and nominate his fellow “Idol” alum and friend, Phillip Phillips.
