The Colorado Springs Police Department reported that, on Sunday, an 18-year-old man that they'd been seeking in the case of a beaten elderly woman was arrested in Douglas County, where deputies had responded to the report of a burglary in progress. Samuel Flores is not only facing charges for the burglary, but also for the attempted first degree murder of his grandmother.

Police had responded on Saturday, shortly after 1 AM, to a 911 call regarding a family disturbance. Upon arriving at the home, officers discovered 73-year-old Elvira Countryman. Countryman reported that her grandson, Flores, had repeatedly beat her with an unknown object. She was able to escape and flee to a neighbor's house. Flores then stole her car.

Officers obtained an arrest warrant for Flores. Countryman was transported to the hospital for the treatment of serious injuries. Her condition was listed as stable on Sunday.
