On Tuesday, a 4th Judicial District judge ruled that 32-year-old Andre Jones will stand trial for the September 9 murder of his estranged wife, who was seven months pregnant at the time of her death, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported. The man will also be tried for other charges including felony child abuse. An emergency cesarean section was performed on the victim, 32-year-old Lakeisha Jones, who had been shot once in the stomach, and her infant child survived.

According to information released in the arrest document, provided by KRDO in September, Jones had reportedly threatened many times to kill his wife after discovering that the baby she was carrying was not his. The victim had reported to friends that she believed Jones was stalking her after she filed for divorce from him in July. The couple had argued about child support for their other three children the day before the murder and were scheduled to meet for mediation on the afternoon of the murder.

The Gazette reported that, according to testimony at this week's hearing, Jones allegedly broke into his wife's new apartment on the morning of September 9 and shot her as she attempted to enter the front door after dropping her children off at school. Jones was arrested later that day after a woman who worked at a nearby office park stated she had seen a man fitting his description walking to a truck similar to his own around the time of the shooting.

Jones will be held at the El Paso County Jail without bond pending trial, the Gazette reported.
