Once again, the city of Colorado Springs continues its tradition of ice skating excellence.
Figure skaters from Colorado Springs will be competing in the 2013 World Figure Skating Championships which will take place in London, Ontario, Canada from March 10 through March 17, 2013.
The skaters who live and train in Colorado Springs who will be competing in this year's "Worlds" include Max Aaron, the 2013 U.S. men's figure skating champion, Canadian and world figure skating champion Patrick Chan, and 2013 US pair skating silver medalists Alexa Scimeca and Chris Knierim.
Aaron won the US title on January 27, 2013. He didn't expect to win, but pulled into the top spot after landing two quadruple jumps.
Scimeca and Knierim won the free skate at the recent 2013 US championships, but were forced to withdraw from the Four Continents championships due to injury, but have been cleared to compete in the upcoming world championships. The pair announced their partnership less than a year ago, in April of 2012.
Chan is already a two-time world figure skating champion and a six-time Canadian champion and is a favorite to take gold at the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympic Games that will take place in Sochi, Russia. Banners honoring Chan's two world titles hang over the Olympic ice sheet in the Colorado Springs World Arena Ice Hall.
