Colorado Springs Diet & Exercise:The year ahead 2012

There are many exciting events coming up this year in Colorado Springs to get individuals and families moving and learning about diet and exercise.

January-February--There is the Health and Wellness Fair at the Antlers Hilton Hotel in downtown Colorado Springs, held on January 28th (see article here).  Also on January 28 and again on February 11, the Cheyenne Mountain State Park is hosting a Family Mystery Hike.  This hike challenges families to solve a puzzle, riddle, or mystery as they walk and search for hidden clues along an easy 1-mile trail.  For more information and to make reservations, please call 719-576-2016.  January 22, there will be a free showing of "Forks Over Knives" at 2 PM at the East Library, 5550 N. Union Blvd. Colorado Springs.  Don't miss this research based documentary that reveals how to reverse the highest killing diseases in America. Light snacks to be provided by Whole Foods. March-April--Come run in the 28th annual 5K on St. Patrick's Day run/walk on March 17th, starting at 10 AM at Acacia Park on Tejon & Bijou in downtown Colorado Springs.  Entry fee is $26 pre-race, $30 on race day.  Call 719-635-8803 for more information.  On April 21, come celebrate Earth Day at Garden of the Gods.  The festivities will begin at 9 AM and will continue until 3 PM.  Some activities include Native American Dance Performers, Nature walks, and free admission to Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site.  Call 719-219-0108 for information.

June-July-August--June 10th we have the Garden of the Gods 10-Mile Run, starting in Manitou Springs.  Entry fee is $30.  July 8th is the Summer Roundup Trail Run 12K.  This starts in Bear Creek Park; entry fee is $30 as well.  August 18 is the Pikes Peak Ascent, half-marathon (13.32 miles) which starts in Manitou Springs, and on August 19 there is the Pikes Peak Marathon, which is 26.21 miles, which also starts in Manitou Springs.  Entry fee for both is $105.  For more information, please call Pikes Peak Marathon, Inc at 719-473-2625.

 
September-October--The Annual XTERRA Marathon of Trail Races will be held on October 6 at the Cheyenne Mountain State Park.  Enjoy challenging, well-groomed trails.  For more information, call 719-576-2016.

January seems to be the month for activities, possibly geared towards helping you keep your New Year's Resolution!  The Garden of the Gods Wellness Walk is ongoing throughout the year, held every Wednesday, weather permitting.
