What skier doesn't like to wake up to fresh powder? Colorado skiers got their snow day after a recent storm blanketed the state earlier this week. Though January has been known to be a dry month but this storm provided a much-needed boost to the ski season.
Ski resorts in Southwest Colorado, the Western Slope, Northwest Colorado, and the Central Mountains, as well as those spots that are closer to the Front Range, reported some major snowfalls. And not just 6 to 12 inches, which would seem major after the dustings from earlier in January. Silverton Mountain received more than six feet of new snow. As a result Colorado resorts are able to open more terrain--and instead of skiing in what could be deemed early-season conditions, skiers are treated to what they know and love about January skiing.
So if you're heading to Colorado ski country for the weekend, here's where you'll find the snow. These are the snow totals from January 29 (unless noted otherwise).
- Silverton: 78 inches
- Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort: 37 inches
- Wolf Creek: 36 inches
- Powderhorn: 33 inches
- Steamboat: 26 inches
- Telluride: 23 inches
- Beaver Creek: 23 inches (in the last seven days)
- Vail: 23 inches (in the last seven days)
- Breckenridge: 21 inches (in the last seven days)
- Sunlight Mountain: 20 inches
- Monarch Mountain: 18 inches
- Crested Butte: 17 inches
- Aspen Highlands: 12 inches
- Snowmass: 12 inches
- Keystone: 11 inches (in the last seven days)
- Aspen: 8 inches
- Buttermilk: 8 inches
- Howelsen Hill: 7 inches
- Winter Park: 6.5 inches
- Loveland: 6.5 inches
- Copper Mountain: 6 inches
- Arapahoe Basin: 5 inches
- Ski Cooper: 4 inches
- Ski Granby Ranch and Eldora also received a few inches of snow.
