Colorado Rapids help the Cat Care Society celebrate 30th anniversary

Summer is such a busy time of year, however, some seriously busy people in sports took time out to visit the Cat Care Society last month. Colorado Rapids players Danny Earls and Marvell Wynne both took time away from defending their national title to visit the Cat Care Society (CCS) in Lakewood. This cats only, cagefree shelter is celebrating their 30th anniverary this month.

Defenders Danny Earls and Marvell Wynne, both cat lovers, spent the afternoon of June 8 at the shelter visiting the kitties and greeting the staff. Earls, from Ireland, has one cat that is currently living with his girlfiend out of state. The CCS staff say they had a hard time getting Earls to leave the kitten room he was so kitten smitten. Wynne, member of the 2008 USA soccer team, is also a cat fanatic having five cats of his own. The cats and staff alike were thrilled to have such enthusiatic cat lovers visiting the shelter and are greatful to both men and the Colorado Rapids for donating tickets to the staff so they can celebrate their 30th anniversary out on the pitch cheering on the defending MLS champs.

The CCS hasn’t forgotten about the rest of us either. On Sunday, July 24, the CCS will throw themselves an anniversary BBQ and everyone is invited. Tickets are $15 and attendees must RSVP by calling 303-239-9680, ext. 20. Some of the milestones the CCS will celebrate are their 14,000 plus cat adoptions in the past 30 years, the Cat Care Clinic that is available to the public for the health needs of all cats and a new renovation to the CCS thrift store, Cajun’s Closet. It will reopen as The Closet at Cat Care Society in August. This party will also celebrate their new extended hours. The shelter is now open on Sundays from noon to 3 p.m.

To learn more about this and many other upcoming anniversary events, visit the Cat Care Society Facebook page or call 303-239-9680. The shelter is located at 5787 West 6th Avenue in Lakewood.
