An Englewood, CO mother is behind bars today, accused of beating a man to death whom she believed had sexually assaulted a child, according to report posted Tuesday by 7News Denver.
30-year-old Forsythia Eliese Owen is being held at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility on accusations that she used a baseball bat to beat 42-year-old Denzel Rainey to death on Sept. 22. Rainey was discovered by police in an alley between the 3600 block of S. Sherman and S. Grant Streets in Englewood and was taken to Swedish Medical Center, where he later died.
The accusations that Owen murdered Rainey because of she suspected him of molesting a child draws parallels to the new movie “Prisoners,” in which a father, played by Hugh Jackman, takes vengeance on a man he suspects is involved with the abduction of his daughter.
It was unclear whether the child Owen believed had been assaulted was her own or someone elses, but Lisa Pinto, spokeswoman for the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office, confirmed to 7News that Owen and Rainey were acquainted.
Following her advisement hearing on Tuesday, Owen is due back in court on Sept. 27.
